One more before the end...

Thought I'd post one more time before the end of the month. I'm sporadic at best when it comes to blogging. My interests are wide and varied so you'll have to bare with me. I hopefully will find something that might interest you on this here blog.

I might not have mentioned it previously but I've been selling my extensive Star Wars collection on Ebay. I'm pretty much down to just bits and pieces of my vintage collection. Some of it sells well and other pieces, well...I'm lucky if I get what I originally paid for it.  So no matter what the "books" say on how much a vintage items is worth now, it really depends on what someone is willing to pay for it. And lets be honest here, everyone is looking for a bargain and things they can add to their collection for as little money as possible. Not that i blame them, I'm guilty of the same thing...wanting to get the lowest privce possible and thrilled when I do. Which is why I never go by what someone states something is worth. It's what the buyer is willing to pay and how much he or she is willing to fork out.

The first thing I started collecting was the Star Wars comics. So before I sold all of my comics off I am scanning each one, cover to cover, so I could have them to read at some future date. I know there are Star Wars fans spread all over the Internet so I thought from time to time I'd share an issue on this here blog.  I haven't run across any other blog who has shared the comics, so hopefully I will be the first. I never could get into the run by Dark Horse after Marvels final issue (there were 107 issues in all) so only have a few of those. It is the Marvel issues I will be sharing. I am missing a few, which I totally don't understand, since I know darned will I had the complete series. However, it is conceivable that they were misplaced after our various moves. Although I did pretty much keep them all in one container I probably took one of them out and didn't place it back where I'd gotten it and well...it's not where it should have been. As soon as I've finished adjusting the scans I've done so far I will be uploading an issue to this blog so keep checking back.

I have a job of sorts, at least I'm getting paid for doing it. It's occasionally looking after a 77 year old woman when her regular carer has to do something else. I find that I do enjoy it and the work isn't to awfully hard and doesn't require me to stand up on my foot to much. The lady can be a little stubborn but who can't at that age...or any age really. She does have her moments and does have some memory loss in the sense that she'll tell me something she's already told me time and again, but truly I don't mind and just pretend that it's the first time I've heard it.

I'm reading a series put out by Harlequin entitled THE NOTORIOUS WOLFES. I'm now on the third book in the series entitled: THE STOLEN BRIDE by Abby Green. The series is about a family of 7 brothers and one sister who had an abusive childhood and how each one coped with not only their past but with the love interest who entered their lives later on. This one deals with Sabastian and his encounter with a Bollywood actress named Aneesa Adani. It's pretty good so far. I recommend that you start with the first book in the series A NIGHT OF SCANDAL by Sarah Morgan since it does mention Sabastian's brother who is a star in Hollywood and the other books mention the other siblings. I only had a couple of the books and with money being tight I have to get them when I can afford it. I try to get each of the at a reasonable price. I miss having a vehicle so I can haunt the half price book stores for the books I'm missing.

I am working on revising another paper doll I created in the 80's. She has clothes based on the ones throughout the Star Wars comics. I called her Leia but will probably rename her...maybe after my Star Wars persona Nareena Starchild. I actually had been working on a series of paper dolls that were of my friends personas but alas, I never finished them. I do have the dolls and some of the outfits done for them so maybe some day...

I want to change the border I'm not really happy with the original. I may use the same border that I used with the other Star Wars paper dolls that I created; which I shared in an earlier posting. I do know I want a more futuristic border than what I originally had. I am coloring this one as I go along so that I have the colors used with the costumes in the comics. In both the black and white completed versions I'll include the covers and swell as small pictures of the character wearing the costume. I do so love Photoshop!!

I also seem to remember that the pose on this doll I got from one of the comics as well but I can't be positive as I have not run across a matching image to this one yet. By the way, if you chose to "borrow" my doll, I have no objections, however, it would be appreciated if you would give a shout out to where you obtained her. :)

Well...I suppose that is all for now. Sorry about the sporadic postings. I am trying to, at least, post something once a month to keep the blog going.

The gal above looks all ready for summer. Off with the winter coat and on with the summer togs!

Katy Keene No. 15 March 1954
Since school is almost out for the summer, thought I'd share a paper doll of Katy's kid sister. Can'r say I was ever in love with a boy at her age. I did have a crush on Dr. Kildare though. Does that count?

Here's an interesting Boots paper doll from the Sunday paper on this date in '37.. I rather feel sorry for Mr. Waddles since his wings have all but been cut off!

TRYING TO BE POSITIVE

It's almost the end of November and our years lease is up at the end of the month. Although we have asked to sign another years lease, we have so far been butting our heads against a brick wall. The last communication from the lawyer who owns the house was "Stand by". What the devil does that mean?? In the meantime we are left in limbo wondering if we are going to be homeless next month. We'd like to rent to own the house if at all possible, or at least given the opportunity to get a loan to buy the house.

The whole situation has left me feeling despondent and depressed. I keep praying for a ray of hope, something to gladden my heart but so far things have gotten worse and not better. The only "ray of hope" was when we signed a years lease. But soon after that the car was repossessed and as I've already reported, lost my cat Snowbelle. Of course Kitty is in our lives now, which did ease the pain of Snowbelle's passing. Which brings me to the point of: Why would God put Kitty in our path, have us take care of her, only to have to turn her over to the Arizona Humane Society?  It just doesn't make any sense. Why give her a home only to have that home taken away?
From Katy Keene No. 23

I know this is the time of year to be "jolly" but I just can't seem to get into the spirit of the season. I feel more like Scrooge or the Grinch rather than Jolly St. Nick. I've been packing our things but at this point I don't even care if everything is left behind. We simply DON'T have the money to move...there are so many fees and deposits and costs that go into moving that there isn't any money to even get an apartment. We've sought help from various agencies...ACHSSES, VA, SS DISABILITY but we don't qualify for any of the programs that supposedly are available for people like us who are struggling to make ends meet. It's caused me to feel sick to my stomach constantly to the point where I don't want to eat, and being diabetic I need to consume something. I've never looked my age, always looked younger but I've noticed that my face is beginning to show the strain and I look OLDER than my years. I just can't seem to help feeling anxious, uncertain, frightened. I admire my husband who has remained fairly calm about the fix we find ourselves in and thinks, most of the time, that I'm simply being silly and childish and worrying about nothing.  We don't want a hand out, just the opportunity to purchase the home.

Thought I'd share more Katy's with you. Sorry for the depressing vibe of the blog today but our situation here is weighing heavily on my mind. In keeping with the "cowgirl" theme of yesterday, here is another paper doll with Katy sporting western. I'll be working on coloring page version of both the pin-up and the paper doll.

Well, can't think of anything else to write. It may not seem like it but I sincerely do try to keep a positive attitude about our situation as it stands now but there are some days when it's just to difficult when I don't really see a light a the end of the tunnel.

Til next time...
